Jeans production runs through brief, pattern making, sampling, fabric and trims, cutting, sewing, washing and finishing, quality control, and ironing and packing. Each style is approved on a sample before bulk production. At Kuzgunlar Textile in Istanbul samples take 7–10 days and bulk production 3–5 weeks, depending on quantity and approvals.
The jeans production process has ten main steps: brief, pattern making, sampling, fabric and trims, cutting, sewing, washing, finishing, quality control and packing. Each style is approved on a sample before bulk production, so the sample becomes the reference for the whole order.
The steps
- Brief: tech pack or reference garment, quantities, sizes, target date.
- Pattern making: the pattern is drafted and graded across sizes.
- Sampling: a first sample is sewn and washed; fit and wash are reviewed.
- Fabric and trims: bulk fabric, thread, buttons, rivets, zips and labels are sourced.
- Cutting: fabric is spread and cut according to the marker.
- Sewing: panels, pockets, waistband, belt loops and hems are assembled.
- Washing: the garment gets its final colour and hand feel — rinse, stone, enzyme or laser.
- Finishing: buttons and rivets are attached; distressing or repairs are added where designed.
- Quality control: measurements, seams, wash tone and finish are checked against the approved sample.
- Ironing and packing: garments are pressed, labelled and packed to your instructions.
Why washing comes after sewing
Most jeans are washed as finished garments. Washing shrinks and softens the fabric and sets the final colour, so the pattern has to allow for shrinkage. This is one reason the sample matters: it shows how the chosen fabric behaves in the chosen wash.
Where quality is checked
- Fabric before cutting
- Measurements during sewing
- Wash tone against the approved standard
- Final inspection before packing
