In 1870 the first blue Jean made by Levi Straus for the miner. Blue Jean legend started by famous people in 1950’s and still indespensable for all over the world in the current times. The name of the Denim comes from the city which name is De’Nimmes from France.
The raw material of the fabric before the meeting with indigo was first produced in Nimes. Denim fabric is a type of fabric obtained by dyeing the warp yarn with indigo dyestuff and tapping after sizing. Cottons grown in Denizli and Akhisar region between the 15th and 17th centuries were then painted with blue paint from India. This blue material, which was brought to İzmir later, was first exported to France-Marseille. From here the Spanish take the fabric to the colonies in America and dress the African slaves. America turns it into an industry and finds it jeans. In other words, the jean was first produced by the Turks but could not make it an industry.
The first denim fabric producers are Akfil Textile and Narin Textile in Turkey. After that Isko, Orta Anadolu Bossa, Çalık and Kilim firms started the producing denim fabric. From the first years of 2000 Kipaş, Matessa, Birlik, Mimataş, Ak Kumaş, Korat, Emin and Şirikçioğlu firms made an investment in this area. After 2010, Tüsa, Aba, Maritaş, and İskur also started producing and made an investment in this area.
In summary, denim is technical and global name of Jean fabric. Denim fabric is a fabric that becomes younger and younger as it gets older.
In Turkey, we say KOT fabric in public for denim fabric. The first denim fabric produced by Muhteşem KOT in 1940’s. In 1940 he met the blue Jean in France. Muhteşe KOT admired this durable fabric and started to producing in Turkey. In 1960 the KOT became a brand name. The zipper on many denim clothes has embossed, YKK in letters on it. It stands for “Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikikaisha“. In Japanese language and means Yoshida Company Japon. Tadao Yoshida, a Japanese zipper manufacturer, founded this company in 1934.

In 2017 Turkey carried out to exports 1 billion 598 million dolars.
